Basil Linalool is an aromatic herb widely used throughout the world, especially in Ayurvedic medicine.  It is considered the safest of the Basil specie and best for long term use.  It is referred to as "the royal oil" to strengthen the mind and heart and to reinforce resistance against infections.

The essential oil is steam distilled from the whole flowering herb.  It has a fresh, sweet and slightly spicy aroma with light balsamic undertone.  It's aroma may be blended with Bergamot, Peppermint, Eucalyptus and others of your choice.

Basil may sharpen the mind and memory as does Rosemary.  It is antispasmodic and may induce menses.  As such, it is a good oil to use in a compress for menstrual pain.  In combination with Black Pepper, it may relieve fatigue.

Best avoided during pregnancy.  If you are Italian, or dream of being Italian, then Basil is a personal favorite.
